Today 10/6/2010 we finished training for our son Ray's Peritoneal Dialysis. Everything went well - in my mind I thought this would be harder and wouldn't be able to pull through. Now that I have been trained I feel more comfortable doing this. I feel blessed to have an option where we and my son can have a more normal life. I can say that from August - October our lives have been a roller coaster from our ups and downs, many worries it has all turned out to be a great outcome. Ray on the other hand is doing really well, adapted really good to dialysis since the beginning. He is full of energy, playful, jumping, running around. Which I thought he wouldn't be able to do but our nurse/doctor told us to let him live as normal as he wants, do all the things he can do. -Cool! My only concern and what we really have to watch out for is keeping our home very sterile/clean. Making sure he will not end up being admitted because of an infection (Peritonitis), or him pulling out his catheter. Plus making sure when he is around other kids that the will not hit him. Just be very cautious. We will see his doctor every week to make sure all is going fine. These two week really kicked our butt, though it was all worth it - everything/anything for our Ray Ray. A big thanks to all the nurses, caseworkers at Texas Childrens Hospital + friends and family who have kept up with our sons condition and for the many donations - thanks again.
